How can my spouse and I apply for Fulbright Scholarship ?
Me and my husband are applying for Fulbright Scholarship , this year , to begin from 2009. My husband is an MBA from IBA and I have done my BCS from FAST.
He is applying for MBA in Entrepreneurship and my self for Masters in Teaching/Education. Our purpose is to study abroad but we don’t have an option for leaving behind our kids. I have mentioned that in my Fulbright application “Additional Information” part ,which we are to submit in a day.
My query is that how should both of us present our application that the authorities do not get offended by our different circumstances. Have there be a similar case in the past too? Thanks.

Hi,
First of all if any of you gets a Fulbright Scholarship, he/she can take his/her spouse and dependents with them on J2 visa. So if anyone of you gets a scholarship, you can go to US altogether and won’t have to leave anyone in Pakistan.
Both of your applications will be dealt separately and I believe mentioning in your application that I would also like my spouse to get the Fulbright Scholarship might not be a good idea.
What you can do is that if suppose one of of you gets the scholarship, then the other one can apply to the same university on his/her own behalf and hope to get admission and scholarship. I know a case where a husband got fulbright scholarship and his spouse applied to the same university and she got university scholarship.
I know another case where both husband and spouse applied indepedently as I suggested above and both of them got the fulbright scholarship.
Again its my own personal opinion that mentioning in your application that you would like your husband/wife to get the fulbright scholarship too is not a good idea.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanku for the prompt reply.
If that is the case then what should we write under the question :”do u have dependents and will they accompany u to US”. “If yes pls write how will u provide for them”
Should both of us mention about our kids in the application?
Our plan is to ofcourse provide for all 4 of us through both stipends and personal funds. Should me mention it or leave it blank?
pls reply soon,
thanku
Both of you should treat your applications independently and you should say ‘Yes, I have dependents and they will accompany u to US’.
In case one of you gets the scholarship, he/she will be able to take rest of them with him/her on dependents visa. If both of you gets the scholarship then you can notify the fulbright and then one of you can just have your kids as dependent and get their visa.
Feel free to ask any question if anything is unclear.
okay thanku jazakAllahkhair!
I want to know that if a person has applied for
Fulbright scholarship and is giving the GRE ,afterwards,
how much score is decent enough to be accepted. For e.g for a “Masters in teaching/education” how much is verbal and quant. is required?
There is no criteria that X score is good enough to be accepted. GRE is one of the several criteria that USEFP consider while evaluating candidates for Fulbright Scholarship. The more score you have, the better it is. Overall I believe 1300+ score is considered to be very good. But again no score guarantees acceptance for Fulbright.
