Hi,
I’m Iqbal and I a few questions:
- what is the scope for ACCA students here in pakistan ?
- Where are these courses available locally and abroad?
- What are the special requirements for it?
- What is the success rate to pass at first attempts?
- Any special advantage of doing ACCA ?
Thanks

I will attempt to compare ACCA and CA for you (answering your fourth point). Maybe someone else can answer your other questions.
[Advantages of ACCA]
1.) To obtain an ACCA, people usually first get a graduate degree and then take on ACCA, so they have a solid background in that sense.
2.) ACCA can be done in less time as compared to CA so you as chartered accountant go in the market earlier.
3.) Unlike CA in which all exams have to be passed in one go (which does not make sense other then increasing the failure rate, and creating a monopoly), in ACCA if you fail some subjects, you only have to pass those (makes sense right!).
4.) ACCA is a more updated course. It is constantly tailored and upgraded depending on the feedback and research.
5.) ACCA is more general in which you learn taxation and related laws of a wide range of countries, whereas CA focuses on Pakistani Laws and Taxation. So you get a breadth of exposure by getting ACCA done. Hence it is globally acceptable.
6.) ACCA has a better pass rate
7.) ACCA is recognized far more that CA abroad. There are certain places in abroad that may chose CA over ACCA but that is very rare. Generally companies expect people with ACCA. CAs usually have trouble finding jobs abroad.
8.) There are no admission tests for ACCA.
[Disadvantages of ACCA]
1.) CAs get jobs easily in Pakistan with better pay. That is a well known fact and there is no denying it. This is because of the artificial monopoly that has been created in Pakistani market by making CA much harder than it should be. If you plan to stay in Pakistan and do not plan to go abroad at all, then this is a plus point!
2.) ACCAs have a general idea about laws and taxation of Pakistan (they do case studies of several countries but not specifically of Pakistan), whereas CAs only really know how the system works in Pakistan and hence they are very well versed in that. So ACCA people have a lot of ramping up to do in the start.
3.) CAs get practical experience and exhaustive article training. ACCA people do not have such specific experience.
For more debate you might want to linger in the http://www.accountancy.com.pk forums. However I may warn you that these forums potentially have misleading information. But you can digg them in your leisure
Have fun deciding!
Hi,
Here’s what I can come up with :
1)SCOPE : ACCA students have been getting decent enough jobs in Pakistn in recent times. I guess it depends on your personality and perseverance. However, I would like to tell you that an ACCA is not generally considered at par with a qualified chartered accountant in Pakistan.
2)COURSES : There are a lot of tuition providers atleast in the major cities of PAKISTAN specially in Karachi (TSA, CAMS and Al-Hamd to name a few). As for the examination centres, I think there are atleast 5 examination centres in Pakistan including Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.
3)At the time when I finished ACCA, there were no major requirements. All you really had to have was an A-level certificate and you could start ACCA. I don’t think the entry requirements have changed. Although you should check out the ACCA website, it should answer most of your questions.
4) SUCCESS RATE OF PASSING IN FIRST ATTEMPT : Tough question. I personally know a couple of people who have gone through it in the first attempt. I guess it depends on how hard you work really. Personally, I feel that if you’re studying full time, or even if you put in a few hours everyday, you should get through fine. I would also like to add that in comparison to CA, it’s much easier to pass in first attempt.
5) ADVANTAGES : I think advantages have been pretty much covered by Aman, I would like to add that after completing ACCA, you get a chance to get a bachelors degree in applied accountancy from Oxford Brookes University only upon submitting a thesis on a few selected topics. One disadvantage is that ACCA is slightly more expensive than CA as the fee is required to be paid in pound sterling and the exchange just keeps climbing.
I hope the above answers your questions…….best of luck !!!
hi iqbal,
this is the offical website for ACCA in Pakistan.. http://www.accaglobal.com . hope you find it useful.
as for your anwser about where are these courses available in pakistan there are a lot of insitutions which are giving ACCA courses in karachi.
Al-hamd Academy -(021) 4387082
Colledge of Accounting and Management Sciences(CAMS) – (021)5831708
School of Business Studies (SBS) -(021) 5862318
Tabani’s School of Accountancy – (021) 4313064
Anis Hassan School of Accountancy – (021) 4820515
there are as such no special requirements for ACCA. there is no need for CAT since your doing Alevels. two Alevels and 3 GCSE or equivalent is enough.

If your first degree qualification is different from your desired post or masters degree, then you must first, do a post graduate degree program in the same field or a pre-masters degree to qualify you for what is required to study for a degree you want. Read more: online masters degree benefits
