My name is Saira. I completed A Levels last Jan. I am looking fwd to come to TX. I plan to go to college first and get done with all the core courses but I don’t know any good colleges in Texas.
Furthermore, what are the requirements to get into a college? How many credit hours one needs in order to transfer to a good university? My interest is in Fashion Designing and I want to know the scope of fashion designing in U.S
Well-Wisher,

Saira,
Texas isn’t the best choice if you’re considering a career in fashion designing. New York, Los Angeles (and Chicago somewhat) are the cities where all the action is.
Besides that … you’ll just need a decent TOEFL score to get into a community college. There are several good colleges in Texas .. so you have to decide which city you’re interested in and then we can help you find a community college. We have a lot of pkstudent volunteers who are spread around in TX.
You can transfer to a university any time you want … but usually people get their Associates degree (2 years) and then do the next two years at a university. You also have a good chance of getting a scholarship if you have a good GPA in college.
Hi Saira,
Arfeen asked me to comment on this because I was at one time considering a career in fashion designing as well. I live in LA and just finished high school. There isn’t a huge market for fashion designers in the US. I know there’s NY and LA, but thats about it. There are universities in the US that are spitting out fashion designers by thousands every year and obviously they all can’t find work.
I’ll tell you about a personal story. At my younger brother’s school, there’s a girl who works as a secretary or something. She told me about 2 years ago that she was going to FIDM http://www.fidm.edu/ which is a leading fashion school in CA. I recently met her again at the school and was surprised that she was still working there (as a teacher this time) because she was supposed to graduate about a year ago. Long story short, she said that she’s been trying to find a job in LA for the last one year, but didnt find any. Not to mention that she had more than $30,000 in student loans (FIDM is expensive)
I didn’t mean to discourage you or anything. But I just wanted to tell you what my research was regarding this. I’m now studying to become a pharmacist.
Good luck!
