I want to do MBA from UK on Scholarship
I graduated from FAST-NU in June 2003. I did my BS-CS from there. I secured a GPA of 2.9 there. I have pretty good communication skills too. At present I am working for a software house of a multinational company. I have a 1 year experience.
Now, i want to go for an MBA in UK. Here are my requirements and what i am looking for. Please help me in this regard.
Requirements:
=============
1. 1 year study within London, preferably high ranked universities like Oxford, UCL, Cambridge, LSE etc.
2. I need a full scholarship for it that especially covers my tuition fee, it may or may not include my accommodation and transport. But tuition fee is a must.
3. Most importantly, i want to get a scholarship before i get admitted. I do not want to go through the entire procedure of getting admitted into a university and finally getting an admission and in the end not getting the scholarship. e.g. The Rhodes Scholarship is signed before the admission so i want details for such scholarships.
3.The study program should start by January 2009 or at max no later than August/September 2009.
Please help me on what procedure i should follow for this, which scholarships i should apply for, which universities would best suit me and any more fruitful information in this regard.
Thank you.

You graduated in June 2003 and have 1 year of work experience in a Software House.
Can you tell if you have any other work experience for the rest of three years in between your graduation and now?
Oh thats a mistake i made in the post. I graduated in 2007 (i am from Batch 2003 actually).I graduated in June 2007 and my 1 yr experience will be completed in June 2008. Other than that, i have been part of various societies in FAST mainly SOFTEC (if that counts as part of experience)
@ Concerned Student,
Thanks for the clarification.
Most of the good universities in UK (Oxford, Cambridge, LBS) require at least 2-3 (preferably 5) years of work experience. They also require very good GMAT score and letter of recommendations.
Most of the good universities admissions particularly the one you mentioned only have admission cycle starting in Fall and they don’t accept students for Spring (Jan) admissions.
Getting scholarship for MBA is extremely difficult. Most of the students take loans or are sponsored by their companies to get into an MBA program. There are very few scholarships available by the university itself for the MBA program and the competition is really tough for that. Hundreds of students with 3.8+ GPA, 700+ GMAT score and 3+ years of work experience apply for that.
In case you are interested in MBA in US then you should apply for Fulbright Scholarship. There are also a lot of scholarships available for MS/PhD (not MBA) by HEC for Pakistani students.
Can you tell elaborate why are you interested in doing an MBA? Are you looking to pursue a different career path?
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thank You for your quick response.
“Most of the good universities in UK (Oxford, Cambridge, LBS) require at least 2-3 (preferably 5) years of work experience. They also require very good GMAT score and letter of recommendations.”
By the time i will get admitted i.e. Fall 2009, my experience will be 2 years and approx 2 months.
I plan to give my GMAT this august, Insha Allah. Letter of recommendations will not be a problem.
I am not interested in going to US for various reasons. My focus is only on going to London. As for MBA, i wanted to change my field from CS and i find myself much interested in managerial study. I personally found myself most interested in MBA curriculum.
Please gimme exact contacts if possible who i should contact and what procedure i should follow.

@ Concerned Student,
Cambridge requires 3 years of work experience and LBS require 5 years of work experience. Oxford on the other hand doesn’t require any work experience for the MBA program and consider fresh graduate like yours. Warwick also require 3 years of work experience.
I don’t see a problem you getting admission in MBA program (provided you have a great GMAT score to compensate your GPA and less work experience) in a decent university (if not top ranked due to your less work experience). The problem I see for you is the funding as there is hardly any scholarship given by the universities themselves. Also MBA fees in most universities is around 20,000 Pounds. Most of the students take loans which they are able to pay off right after their MBA by getting high salary jobs.
There are couple of things that you can do
(1) Get a loan to fund your studies. You might then would like to stay in UK so that you can get a 35k pounds per year job and pay off your loan
(2) Delay your MBA plans by getting a good work experience and also save some money for it. This will also help you with your chances of getting into a better university
(3) If you are very interested in Mgmt degree than why MBA? You can also do something MSc Management which is less expensive (around 12k-13k pounds) fees and are less competitive. Like in any other MS program, getting a scholarship would be competitive. Also there are very few scholarships by HEC for people interested in Management degree.

Dear all,
I certainly find myself in a similar situation, as the one ‘Concerned Student’ is in. I have a GPA of 3.54 & have a degree of BSc Textile Engineering. I am halfway through my first year at Dewan Mushtaq Group, as a Quality Assurance Manager.
Younas bhai, is there a possibility where I can leave the big guns (Oxford, UCL, Cambridge etc.) out, and go for a lets say, lesser university?? In that case which universities have their fees on the lesser side and offer competetive edge to its students at the same time?
My criteria for scholarship is also not as rigid. A half tuition fee or something like that would do. Understanding my situation what advice can you give to me….
Regards,
Abrar
