Hi,
I have a MS FEE from GIK and am currently working at NESCOM.
I want to do PhD from Worlds high class University and then settle in Australia & like to retain my family wife n& two kids.
But my parents are old And I also don’t want to leave them at the dotage.
Now what should I do?
Either
I should do a local PhD unwillingly? or
Forget the idea of PhD and content to what I am & simply get another job if (as) the current salary is low around Rs.50k/m.
Please also consider that
I have more than three years post MS experience in Automation & two years post B.E experience in Power utilities I.E., WAPDA & KESC
Thanks

Hello there. You mentioned that you want to do a PhD from a high class University.
First of all, if you plan to settle in Australia, then you must try to obtain a PhD from Australia. Because if you obtain a degree from lets say, USA or UK, it will be hard to get a job in Australia.
The top universities in Australia (that also are in the world’s to 50)
AUSTRALIAN National University
University of MELBOURNE
The University of SYDNEY
University of QUEENSLAND
MONASH University
University of NEW SOUTH WALES
Generally these universities do not require a GRE score unlike the universities in USA. But if you have a GRE with a good score, it is definitely a plus point.
Entry requirements include MS degree which you already. However a really important aspect in admission for a Doctorate degree is research. Have you ever done any research? Do you have any publications?
Getting scholarship in Australia is usually hard. There are some Pakistani government phd scholarship programs that pop up from time to time, but more often then not require you to come back to Pakistan and are merit based.
There are a few considerations.
1.) Do you have money to afford yourself in a university for two semesters at least. Usually finding financial aid in a university (if you do not get scholarship) requires some time and therefore a buffer of some kind is necessary.
2.) Phd in Australia or anywhere else for that matter takes at least four years. It will probably be very hard to afford your wife and kids (who will be there as dependents with you) for four years, unless you get a scholarship. It will be a tough road, but if you are willing to do it, your and your wife’s future will be secure.
3.) It is usually hard for the parents to get visa for Australia initially. At best, it is a hit or miss game. Once you finish your Phd degree and obtain a job, then it is easier to call your parents over to Australia.
I think that you should apply to the top 10 Australian universities even if you are unsure about eventually doing a Phd. The decision is much easier if you have the actual options in hand.
Once you have the admission letters/scholarship offers in your hand, then you can weigh the pros and cons and then decide.
Cheers!
I WANT UR SCHOLARSHIP.
