recommendation letter for self-employed candidate

I am planning to apply for an MBA from UK.

During my entire professional career, I have either worked for myself or for my family business. In that scenario, what/who is the best person to get the letter of recommendation from? I can manage the academic reference from my university but I am confused about the recommendation from work.

Thanks in advance.

    Dear Noman,

I would suggest you to contact the universities where you are applying and ask them what they would prefer. Most of the universities would ask you to

    1) Get the recommendation letter from your client who knows you well and is familiar with the quality of your work.

    2) Get the recommendation letter from someone at your work (he can be co-owner, your subordinate) who can present balanced evaluation of your work.

    3) A recommendation letter from anyone who can assess your professional accomplishments to date and your likelihood for success in the MBA program.

They might ask you for an extra recommendation letter too. So, in short it depends on the university policy for self-employed candidate and its best to get clarification from them about what they prefer.

Hope it helps and best of luck with your career.
