Working after MS with a Fulbright Scholarship



Sir/Madam,

I introduce myself as a geophysicist(oil & gas exploration) and has received this US FULBRIGHT scholarship. I work in OGDC and I am not sure IF I should go to US, leaving my job.

I was reading this profile of Mr. Jehanzeb who was a Fulbrighter and ended up working in US. I have the following queries:
1. IS it possible to work after doing masters on Fulbright. I have got the j1 visa, but I haven’t gone abroad yet?

2. After coming back to Pakistan, can I go back to any other country, please note that I am not on HEC/FULBRIGHT program, I am on simple fulbrght program (they have taken undertaking for us to return to Pakistan on 100 Rs stamp paper) but no bond was signed (i’m no sure if that is a bond)

    I have heard that you have to come back to Pakistan after your scholarship is finished and serve back Pakistan. You are bound for that.

    i m really finding it hard to contact, some of the people like jehanzen and nabeel athar, since they were fulbrighters.

    Dear Salman,

    Couple of clarifications.

    Jehanzeb is not working in US.

    1) No it is not possible to work in US after MS on Fulbright. You will have to come to back to Pakistan for 2 years before you can qualify for H1 visa.

    2) By rule you are supposed to stay in Pakistan once you complete your degree. Earlier batches didn’t sign any bond with Fulbright. I am not sure in your case if you can go to any other country or not.

    yes- i don’t work in US.

    And if you want to work after your MS in US then please don’t take Fulbright. you will be disappointed and nothing else.

    well…i think getting fullbright is a great oppurtunity..If a person is getting that he may avail it
    as…there are cases when people get an oppurtunity to work
    for 1 year in U.S after completion of their education in U.S
    and once they come back to Pakistan, they just have to serve their home country for atleast 2 years.
