Does anybody know, how many fulbright scolarships are being offered for 2009 program? I can find out such notifications for previous years, where sometime the US ambassadar would announce the number of scholarships for the year, but havent really been able to find out for this year. Any one with a deeper insight?

i hate to give good people bad news(marix oracles dialogue)
but the source is pretty reliable cant disclose for obvious reasons and its over for all engineering background guys irrespective of what they applied for
@Doc dont worry dear… Have Faith in ALLAH g you should pray and wait till the end of interviews bcoz you never know…
@bumblebee as far as i know it has been just 2 weeks since interviews started and third week is going on and the process continues till mid of September.. how can you say this with so much confidence…. is the informer usef representative… i dont think they share such news..
that is astonishing for me as well, muneeb. How can someone be so resourceful as to get the first hand insights of such matters.
@bumblebee: can you please give me your MSN or Yahoo! ID.
bumblebee is wrong .. they have not shortlisted in this manner .. the earlier one gets interviewed, the better his/her chances .. in my experience , people from every field were mixed .. for example .. a few people from my group were from finance, planning etc .. mostly engineers but i think It was a mixed bag .. secondly, one should not lose hope .. according to my sources about half the people have been interviewed.. somewhere around 115-125 .. Still half the lot is left ..
yaar jisko dekho uske paas sources hain . . . and I thought FULBRIGHT is all transparent and crystal
if u ppl dnt want to believe me plz dont…i m sorry that i shared information …just forget that i said anything …KEEP WAITING IF U WANT I DONT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS :@
Hey everyone, calm down. Lets keep things on an even keel here. This is a discussion based forum, not the Fulbright committee’s scouting ground.
That aside, my guess is that there might be some element of truth to bumblebee’s statements. Fulbright might have wanted to get the priority candidates and disciplines out of the way first, or probably the easiest to deal with as the applications of engineering candidates and most technical disciplines are easier to process and compare.
Bumblebee, I’m gonna go out on a limb here and ask you straight out, could you get any info about when (or if…) people with media backgrounds and choosing media degrees ahead will be called for interviews?
@bumblebee
have you been called for an interview
good question …
@Umer
thanks
@bumblebee Don’t take it personal. We are all discussing matters, thats it! No one is against you, we are just surprised and thats why this reaction. It would be better if you could give a hint about your sources in USEFP so that the reliability in everyone’s mind will increase.
btw my sources are the people at USEFP (no inside special ppl).. I just CALLED them to find out how long will the interview process will take and when was the last date I could send in my TOEFL scores ..
PS .. those who do have the USEFP number .. Pls dont start flooding them with calls as they might get fidgety and stop responding to everyone altogether ..
@Umer
what did they said to you
@Umer
what did they told you then…
Hi everyone,
So are they interviewing PhD applicants as yet? Or are just interviewing MS applicants?
@Umer and Muneeb
I havent been called for intervie and I wont be called either now
My source is an employee of USEFP who is a cousin
@sanguninus
Sorry i cant get any such information as it might be of interest to you but of no interesst to me
Thats the honest answer
bubye
may be you are right but its my message to engineering people be optimistic and do look for other options in parallel…
Its been a while since anyone who got called posted on the forum. DOnt think many people use this forum.
we do dear but no one has got the call till now so everyone is waiting
Friends………FYI
Dear Applicants,
Thank you for applying for the 2011 Fulbright scholarship grant competition. The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) is temporarily suspending the Fulbright interviews due to the severe weather conditions in many parts of the country and extreme difficulty faced by many to travel to Islamabad.
USEFP will resume interviewing of short-listed candidates by the end of August 2010 and continue until the second week of September 2010. Once again we thank you for applying for the Fulbright competition and appreciate your patience.
Best regards,
Program Department
The United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (Fulbright Commission)
I also have applied for Fulbright this year and received that above intimation e-mail today
How many of you have received the email….
I did! Its temporarily off
F***ing #$#*%()$#(*%($* !!
Cant take it anymore.. now I’ll have to wait longer maybe they will tell us by Nov 2010 … –> (Pulling hair from head)
this means u should be hopeful Doc.. not every one has received this email..
@umer u dont have to wait becoz there is no delay in final decision… Chill man ..
sabar ka phal meetha hota ha
I also received this email.How many people has got this email….
Can any one tell what sort of questions they ask….??????
any applicant who has not got this suspension email? I think they must have sent it to all.I got it too
those who have not receeived it please report as it might help in the guessing game.Cheers
Actually one of my friend has not received it … He applied for architecture…
did he check the junk folder coz i found it there
he has not received…
I’m pretty sure everyone will get it. Those who haven’t might wait a day or two. But this just prolongs the agony. Though I think it is a commendable act, because someone living in affected areas might have huge problems coming in for the interview.
Yar atleast they should clear the situation by telling those people who havent been shortlisted for the interview. So the people may not wait for the decision and move on to some other option they might have…..
>>T@$
I agree, it would have been better to send the confirmation to those who have actually been shortlisted. I think they have done othervise and have asked everyone to wait irresoective of weather they have been shortlisted or not. So WAAAAAAAAAAAIT
I agree, it would have been better to send the confirmation to those who have actually been shortlisted. I think they have done othervise and have asked everyone to wait irrespective of weather they have been shortlisted or not. So WAAAAAAAAAAAIT
my 4 friends have not get it but 2 have got…. i dont think there is a point of telling everybody even not shortlisted to wait more….
anyhow its a mystery, to know what exactly it was we have to waittttttttttttttttttt
This might be a stupid question, but can we be called for a second interview too? I’ve already had my first (which is hopefully why I haven’t received the above email btw).
In any event, my guess is they would have emailed everybody since they don’t want shortlisted candidates to know they’ve been shortlisted till only a few days before the interview. Maybe they want to give everyone the same amount of time to prep for the interview.
@Fraud …
This IS a stupid question .. I had my interview too and didnt receive the email prob coz its not required.
and yes you are right, logic dictates that everyone be given the same amount of time to prepare for the interview.
@everyone else..
Keeping the tradition of asking stupid questions alive.. Does anyone think being called earlier during the interviewing process makes you a priority candidate or have they done the sorting according to the subjects ?
no dear.. because if you have followed the blog then u should have noticed last year Ram C was called at the start he was not selected while amirali was called last in sep he got selected so the process is random you cant say this
Hi Dudes…
I also got the mail.
@Umer
My ‘stupid’ question was whether we can be called for a second interview or not!
Dear All
All we have to do is to wait till September.
yes i think the same WAIT…. but y the hell my friends have not received the email… can anyone tell…
Friends, I have taken this statement from USEF website (http://www.usefpakistan.org/newsletter/program0710.htm#p3). Please read it carefully…..
“USEFP has received more than 1100 applications for Fulbright PhD and Masters programs for the year 2011. The electronic data entry of the applications has already been completed within a short span of one month and the review of applications is underway. Till date, more than 435 applications for Masters and more than 20 applications for PhD have been reviewed by two different evaluators. Simultaneously, the interviewing process has also been started for shortlisted candidates and 44 students for Masters Program and 16 students for PhD (Science and Technology) program have been interviewed”.
My assumption is that the shortlisting process is underway. As per above statement, since short-listing and interview process is moving “Simultaneously” so we can say that only 41% process of Fulbright process has been completed as of today / or as of this week. Still 59% applications are remaining to be processed. That might be the reason that all of us not received that e-mail.
Bottom line is “be kool” and believe in Allah. He will do the best for all of us. So keep your hope alive till second week of september (either you received above e-mail or not) & till then, best strategy for time pass is “to wait” as mentioned by Zahid & Muneeb. I wish best of luck for all of you, those who given the interview & waiting for interview (including me)…….
@ Moiz that was awesome my friend.. Thank you so much for sharing the information… so it show who have received the mail should be hope full and have faith in Allah g. Inshallah We will be receiving good news soon..
I think people who have not received email have there application reviewed but you should not lose hope and we all should just pray and WAIT once again
people who have been interviewed plz share ur experience…thanks
Hey I beleive all the students who have got call are from punjab or upper areas of Pakistan. How many of you from karachi get called for interview?
Brilliant deduction rims. Go with this same attitude into the interview (in case you get called, and i hope you do), and i’m sure you’ll get the fulbright scholarship.
Just wanted to ask again, did everyone get the email about the delay?
