Does anybody know, how many fulbright scolarships are being offered for 2009 program? I can find out such notifications for previous years, where sometime the US ambassadar would announce the number of scholarships for the year, but havent really been able to find out for this year. Any one with a deeper insight?

Financial engineerng is focused on the quantitative side of finance. You need to have a solid quant background …prior courses in calculas , algebra are required… dunno if anyone has applied for the field
Dear engineers, yesterday, I have appeared for my interveiw. No need to worry because out of 16 applicants on that day, 09 were engineers (electrical / mechanical / telecommunications / mecharonics etc). Sp keep your fingers cross and hope alive. Allah will do the best for you. Normally, it take 10-15 minute by the interview panel. Interviews will remain till end of September.

He is a friend’s friend so dunno much about him except that he has a BSC econ from LUMS and a couple of years experience at Standard Chartered…

Had my interview. There were two batches interviewed. One was called at 8 and the other at 10. I was in the latter. 10 minutes were given for writing an essay on ‘Why is our cricket team’s performance so unpredictable?’ Before being called, your photograph is taken and the online application is checked for errors and then you are asked to correct or complete it, in case. I do not know how my interview went. It is very hard to tell whether your answers are making you appear as a better candidate or not however, it lasted 15 minutes. The questions were about my field largely and I believe vary from person to person. All candidates were from different fields. One of the girls was a Bachelors’ only.

Yes I am a public policy candidate..Have done my Bsc(hons) in Eco and Finance and have applied for MPP with a major in Economic policy. I have 740 in Quantitaive…don’t ask about the verbal lol…So what are ur credentials?

Thanks! u have an impressive profile…U have a better chance of getting the call inshAllah….No I haven’t heard from them since 18th May 2010..lol they didn’t even send me a confirmation email that my application is received :S ….well same here I am also sick of waiting…it seems like a never ending story…Let’s hope our prayers are answered and we get that much awaited ‘Call’… Lets hope for the best. The online application submission form closes on 15 September. Furthermore there are around 250 Masters’ candidates who have been shortlisted for an interview. On Weekdays two batches of around 10 students each are interviewed while on Friday only one batch is interviewed. That amounts to 90 candidates being interviewed each day. 44 have already been interviewed before the temporary suspension. That leaves 200. Since the interviews began on 30th August, this implies that the interviews will go on for two weeks. Sufficient time to interview all the candidates by 15 September. No idea how dumb it sounds but this is how long I have roughly estimated this will go on.

@YC.Well i couldn’t meet anyone who had applied for MPP or MPA on my interview day.I was in the first batch and most of them were either engineers wanting to go for a masters and 2 doctors opting for Public Health. My interview went okay since the outcome of the result in October,2010 would show the results

Sorry for the digression, but does anyone have concrete information regarding the HEC bond worth USD 250,000[20million PKR] that you have to sign before you can leave Pakistan.
If true, that beats the purpose of this scholarship. If we were in possession of property worth that much amount, we would have no real need for a scholarship. And what about the slogans of Fulbright scholarship being awarded to people of disadvantaged backgrounds?
I would like someone to shed light on this aspect as well.

your arithmetic makes sense ….. it works perfectly if we assume that the interviews are being held everyday and 20 candidates are being interviewed… which means that the next week may well be the final week for the interview invites …. even with eid holidays there would be sufficient time to interview everyone by mid sept…

i guess ms in finance has not got them too excited …plus now that i look back possibly i could have made my app stronger …but its ok … not losing hope

In my limited knowledge, one has to sign a bond … not sure about the exact sum though … in addition am pretty sure not every grantee has that amount of assets so they must be giving waivers ….
regarding the background , i feel candidates from disadvantaged backgrounds do have an edge… however its not need-based but a merit-based scholarship… pls read Dr. Hyder’s posts above and you will get an idea … hope this helps

Thanks for the info. But I have heard from a friend that his friend who got scholarship for Phd last year couldn’t sign the bond because of the lack of assets worth 20million PKR that HEC was demanding and thus had to forfeit this scholarship. Its a rumor so far as I haven’t heard it from the horses mouth… thus I wanted to be sure about this bond thing.

I have 1350 GRE score. Q: 750 and V:600 and AWA: 4.
My CGPA is 3.53 and I have done BSc. in Electrical Engineering (with majors in communication) in 2010. I have applied for MS in computer science. At the time of application I had one publication, one year R&D project experience(during my study) though not related to my proposed field and internships at Alcatel-Lucent, Nokia Siemens Networks and PTCL. Also have CCNA and various Juniper Networks certifications.

@YC..Well they asked me about different things in a very congenial environment.They asked me that where do i see myself in next ten years,what’s the problem with your job currently,Why in particular you want to go to US (no reference to Fulbright) and what message you would carry from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the people of US. Where did you hear from Fulbright and what difference you feel from your previous job (as an engineer) and currently as a civil servant.
