Does anybody know, how many fulbright scolarships are being offered for 2009 program? I can find out such notifications for previous years, where sometime the US ambassadar would announce the number of scholarships for the year, but havent really been able to find out for this year. Any one with a deeper insight?

Do you know anyone in CS getting interview call?

and i dont know anyone who has been called for MS in Computer Science except one who has done his undergrad in CS but not sure he applied for MS Cs or not
@Naveed if u apply directly to US uni i am sure u ll get the funding you have an excellent profile brother

Do you know anyone from last year with same GRE score getting the scholarship?
One of my fried who have applied for MS in Electrical Engineering got the interview call on 2nd Sep, he had 1390 (770Q and 630V) in GRE.
@muneeb
That undergrad CS man got the call? Do you know about his GRE score and profile

We’ve crossed 1000 posts on this forum. That calls for a celebration . . . . . so CHEERS ! ! !
hey Doc did you got the call
i would like to hear from people who have applied to MBA prg. I applied for MBA and have three years of development banking/ finance experience, got called for an interview which went well and hovered arnd my work/future plans/essays.
Looking forward to hear frm others!!!
How can you say that this is the last week, In my opinion it is not the last atleast there remain 2 weeks, 17 sepgtember was last year the last week, this year they paused the interview for about 2 weeks, so the interviews would continue upto the end of this months, As far as CS students are concerned I have not heard anyone till now of CS who have been called for interview.
Kashif-i’ve applied 4 mba too but no call so far…got 3 yrs banking xperience n GRE score is 1350…did u meet other mba candidates? how much hope do u see 4 urslf?
best,
sarmad
I think TOEFL matters. As one of my friend have 3.0 CGPA and 1390(Q:770 and V:620) Score and the other one have 3.8 CGPA and 1340 GRE Score(Q:770 and V:570). Both have applied for MS in Electrical Engineering.
The first one with CGPA 3.0 got the call on 2nd Sep as he had given TOEFL and had a score of 114 on iBT, the other one didn’t gave TOEFL and didn’t got call for interview yet.
I think they are preferring applicants with TOEFL.
@Rims
I think you are rite because interviews were suspended in last week of july and then started from 30th august which means till wednesday tomorrow only 8 days of interviews have been consumed becoz we have eid holidays after dat and they say they have just interviewed 44 and 250 for masters have been short listed and 130 for phd. I dont think it whud end by mid of sep.
@ Naveed getting a high gpa doesnot make sure u ll get the scholarship they like diversity its about the PS and OS (obj statement) too.. any how lets hope for the best to all .. wait is the only solution
@ Sarmad, fortunately i have already been interviewed in Mid July. I know of couple of other people from my school who have been interviewed for MBA, didnt met anyone there thou. I think you have decent credentials u should and IA would get a call.
@ALL
Any idea if they have any specific quota for MBAs ( i heard MBA isnt usually on their priority list), i just heard frm some one that they are very gung-ho for awarding MBA awards this yr, can anyone shed some light on tht?
Can anyone plz tell me how did your Phd level interview go? what was the thrust of questions during the interview? I shall be very grateful.
Hello!!! Where is everybody?? any calls for after eid??
Doc, Umer, Rims, YC where r u people???? What is the update on the interviews??? Please reply ASAP…m facing acute depression! this blog was the only hope left for me..and now u guys are gone! please start posting again!
and US too*
@ Dan
yar have no update on the interviews…. while we all still have a chance of getting the call am not pinning too much hope on it now… instead am looking for alternatives and focussing on things that are in my hand …. if it doesnt workout its not the end of the world … there is always next time and there are other avenues as well …. so keep your spirits up buddy and have faith that things will work out in anycase inshAllah
@ Us
Thanks! Really appreciate it! I am also considering other options..If we get the call it would be great…but if it is the end of the process I think It is Allah’s Will and something much better will be in store for us! So all the best and inshAllah we might get lucky and get the call…
How much score is required in TOEFL for Fulbright..?
How much you got ?
@Dan ..
Im here .. just waiting for the results myself .. It doesnt help if you’ve been interviewed in Mid july and still have over a month to go before they tell you to pack your bags or dont ..
@Umer bags packing is too far
next august if selected
All the best Umer! InshAllah u’ll get the scholarship!
is there any reason to believe that the screening process is over???
i think practically speaking there interviews shud and would be conducted till the end of sep atleast, thoughts??
I’ll second you Kashif…Logically speaking I don’t think that the process is completed as we speak…According to my knowledge the interviews should and would continue till end sep..coz last yr they conducted interviews till 17th sep…and this yr they suspended the interviews for a whole one month..So it doesn’t make sense that the interviews are over.I can still see some hope…All the best!
@ kashif and Dan i have explained it above and i agree too
BTW EID MUBARIK everyone
Eid mubarik Y’all .. I hope everyone waiting for a interview call gets good news in the coming days ..
Enjoy Eid and good luck ..
any one else who is an MBA applicant, whether or not interviewed, would like to share their experience/hopes??
Salam and Eid Mubarak to all
I have my interview on 16Sep at Karachi. I have applied for MS in Energy systems. I did my graduation some seven years back and have worked in Siemens and Engro.
Any tips for getting through this interview part.
BTW I will appear in TOEFL on 18Sep.
Regards
Ismail
Karachi
@Ismail..Please be yourself and go through your Study research objectives and Personal statements once again and make your case strong in front of them..Hopefully,it would be better.
@YC..did you get the call ?..wishing you eid mubarik!
@Ismail when did you get the call ??
For last 3+ hours, I am stuck to PC screen to read all the entries on this page. It was really very interesting and informative. Bonus was all that emotion masala (eagerness, frustration, excitement, despair, joy etc). It really made me sit for these hours. LoL. All contributors, great job done and best of luck!
@Hurricane
Thanks a lot for advice. All the best!
@Every one
Is there any engineer (especially Electrical and/or from NED/IIEE) to share the interview experience?
Thanks in advance!
@Muneeb: Sorry I missed ur msg. It was 1st wk Sep (2nd or 3rd).
BTW earlier I received call for interview on 13July. However requested them to postpone it due to my unavailability.
@Hurricane: Can I call you? If yes, what would be convenient time for you?
@Ismail
Can you please share your GRE score with us?
Have you given TOEFL.
I have done B.Sc Electrical Engineering from UET Peshawar but applied for Computer Science (majors Information Security).
My GRE score is 1350 (Q:750, V:600, AWA:4), haven’t got the call yet. I am worried about my low quantitative score.
@Naveed
. (However with a full time project job and two kids, it was just ‘okay’ for me).
Yaar mine was pathetic. 1100 (Q:680, V:420, AWA:3.5). I did much much better during practice sessions
Your GRE score is really good. I hope you get the call soon. BTW what was your graduation year?
I plan to appear on TOEFL on 18Sep.
Luckily I have good academic/extra curricular activities record (which, I believe, has really helped me here). I was among top 20 position holders in Matric and Intermediate in Karachi Board. Got 1st position in my graduation (B.E. Industrial Electronics). My final year engr project got third prize in an international competition by IEEE (2004) and presidential award (2005).
I am working as a project engineer now (with 6+ year work experience in Siemens/Engro).
I have recently graduated in 2010. I had an unpublished paper at the time of application and one year project experience with Directorate of Science and Technology, Peshawar (though not related to computer science). My CGPA is 3.53, among top 10 of my department. 82% in FSc and 80% in Matric.
Now my profile is much better.
Is it like that, USEFP calls all Electrical Engineering applicants on the same day? Like one of my friend with 3.0 CGPA, 1370 GRE and 114 TOEFL got the call on 2nd Sep. He also applied for MS in Electrical Engineering.
@ ismail
Many congrats!!
just for my abundant clarity, will u be interviewed in khi?? i thought for security or whatever reasons they opted not to pick khi as a venue for interviews.
Goodluck for the interview and re-read ur essays before going!
@Kashif
Thanks buddy for advice. Yup, venue for interview is Karachi (USEFP Clifton Office).
Is it possible to contact you on facebook/email? My email is ismail(dot)sultan(at)yahoo(dot)com.
@Naveed
Impressive Profile. Good Luck Dude!
Don’t know if USEFP has called EEngr on the same day. When is the interview of ur friend? Is it 16Sep?
@ Ismail
No. His interview was on 8th Sep in Islamabad.
Just got a call from USEFP that my interview venue has been changed to Islamabad (21Sep10) from KHI (16Sep10)…
Any other candidate from KHI who is going to ISL on 21Sep10?
@ ismail
sure u can contact me at:
rajani.kashif@gmail.com
