2012 Korean Government Scholarship Program
The Korean Government Scholarship Program is designed to provide higher education in Korea for international students, with the aim of promoting international exchange in education, as well as mutual friendship amongst the participating countries. Inha University has been selected as one of esteemed universities in Korea for Korean Government Scholarship Program and makes this notice for 2012 KGSP application.

Brief history of Inha University (http://eng.inha.ac.kr):
Inha University is one of the top ranked universities in Korea.
In the early 1950s, Korea desperately needed engineers to reconstruct the country that was devastated by the Korean War held between 1950 and 1953. Therefore Inha was founded in 1954 with a mission to lead the industrial development. The proceeds of the sales of the Korean Christian Institute established by President Syng-Man Rhee and donations from Korean immigrants in Hawaii helped the Korean government finance the construction of Inha. Inha came from Incheon andHawaii and was established as Inha Institute of Technology by the Presidential Decree.
So, in 1954, Inha Institute of Technology was established by the Presidential Decree and became Inha University in 1972. Currently Inha University has 11 colleges, 2 schools, 9 Graduate Schools and a hospital. Since 1968, Inha University has been led by Hanjin group along with Korean Air and Hanjin Shipping.
Ranking:
Although there are many types of national and international ranking of universities run by different bodies, the position of Inha University in the most popular rankings is stated here. In 2011, Inha University has secured 11th position among the domestic universities that was ranked by the JoonAng Daily and 450th position in global perspective by Chosun Daily and QS.

Before applying, I would like to strongly recommend you to contact a certain professor who will agree to be your research supervisor. You should also talk about research assistantship for living cost.

List of Master’s and Doctoral program:
Usually, duration of Master’s degree program is 2 years, Doctoral program 3 years (or more) and integrated (Master’s + PhD) program 5 years.
The application period for master’s and doctoral degree program is March to April and September to October for spring and fall semester respectively.Before submitting documents, all the applicants have to complete their online applications.
There is no application fee for international applicants.

The criteria of an international applicant are:
1) The applicant and his/her parents are not Korean citizen
2) Have a 4-year bachelor degree for admission in Master’s degree program/ Integrated program
3) Have a Master’s degree for admission in Doctoral degree program.
Scholarship:
Inha University offers a good number of quite generous scholarships as full and half tuition fee waiver. Full or half scholarship is provided upon GPA obtained in the last degree and Language test score in English and/or Korean. Every year, Inha Graduate School offers 80 full scholarship and 40 half scholarship to newly admitted students.
In this semester (Fall 2012), 42 full scholarship and 38 half scholarship will be awarded to newly admitted students. There is no quota for any particular nationality. There is no application fee too. So, eligible applicants from any nationality can take the chance.
An eligible student can apply for Jungseok International Scholarship. Applicants must meet the following conditions:
1. Obtain a minimum GPA 2.5/4.0 or 2.7/4.3 or 3.0/4.5 or marks 80% in the previous degree program.
2. Have a valid Language Proficiency Certificate (IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL-ibt 76 or TOPIK level 3).
Jungseok International Scholarship covers only tuition fee and entrance fee. (Full or Half)
It does not cover private expenses (living cost).
Assistantship for living expense:
Research Assistantship is the convenient way. It depends on the agreement of supervising professor and student. Most of the science and engineering major students can get research assistantship from lab/professor.
Korean Government Scholarship:
The organization which manages GKS-KGSP (Global Korea Scholarship-Korean Government Scholarship Program) is NIIED (National Institute for International Education).

Notarized/ Original transcripts (not only attested) in English or Korean. ***If the transcripts are in mark system, those should be converted into GPA system by the University.
6. Recommendation letters
From a professor in your former university,

9. Certificate of Bank Account
More than USD 10,000 deposited more than 1 month (Check the owner: applicant’s name or parent’s name) (local currency should be converted into dollar)

Original Certificate (not photocopy or attested)
12. Letter of Consent
Designated form (separate ones for bachelor and master’s), date and signature
